i think weed should be legalized for personal use. however, it should be treated under similar rules as alcohol. no driving while under the influence of weed. you should be able to smoke weed legally within certain establishments, which should require some kind of license.....which can be obtained on a local level, much like most licenses. smoking weed should be allowed in the home. smoking weed in certain public places shouldn't be allowed, much like drinking isn't allowed in certain public areas.
i think weed can have a legit tax benefit. selling it alone would mean a lot of money in sales taxes and/or sin taxes. instead of the drug dealers, you can have legit shops selling it (business/corperate taxes on profits). people would be given legit jobs, meaning more taxes. people could grow weed legally. since weed wouldn't weed wouldn't need anything fancy for growing, like pesticides, the expenses in growing would be minimal. huge profits for the growers, good tax money for the government.
it could even be regulated by the government, much like it regulates food production. in theory, it could be produced in a safe fashion.

me personally, i wouldn't tax it too horribly. never been a fan of insane amounts of taxes on anything. on a state level, i would probably use a similar tax method that's used for cigerettes or alcohol. if taxing on a federal level, maybe a flat 10%.
with the current economy, state & federal governments could use every extra dime they can get.

the only issue anyone would really have is what's the right amount of tax? as a beer drinker, it's bound to tick me off when people want to tax it. for non drinkers, they don't care how high the taxes get.

i think it various by state/province, as well as wether or not a city or county has local taxes. i believe it's almost 10% in Minnesota (where i live).

10% flat tax sounds about right for something like that.
