Do you believe that gays should have the same right to marriage as a heterosexual couple? Do you believe that a civil union is enough, or is that discrimination? What do you believe and why?
Personally, I think that gays should have the right to marriage. Not necessarily in a church, if that is against the church's beliefs, but a legal marriage not just a civil union.

We're all born into this world exactly the same, and the rights we all have should be exactly the same, regardless of beliefs, gender, or sexual orientation.

I completely agree. It really bothers me that most of the states in my country do not allow gay marriage. Our country was founded on equality, so it seems so contradictory.

Yes why not?
Any 2 people who are in love should have the right to devote their lives to each other. I think it's very un fair if your not to be honest.

Wow, seems that we're all on the exact same page! We should wait on this one until someone joins in from the other side.

Civil union gives different rights and lacks some. With a civil union you don't get tax benefits and do not have hospital visitation rights.

ah......it's all in the technicalities. if it's a matter of splitting a few hairs, then let's just allow gays to get married. originally, i was going to vote in favor of the civil unions. at least, until i heard the technical differences. if gays get the right everywhere to share most things, then why stop at tax benefits or visitation rights?
plus, if memory serves me right, a marriage doesn't have to be a religious ceremoney. it can legally be done by a justice of the peace or a judge, if i'm not mistaken. this would have to be somewhat beneficial to gays, if they can't find a church that'll hold the function.
i know a lot of people are more traditional about marriage, in this part of the country. not a matter of hating gays, for most of the people. it comes across as a matter of tradition. religious beliefs come into it, more then anything. you probably heard the points enough to know what i'm talking about. most of the people up here will use the logic of "i don't care what happens behind closed doors", but don't want certain religious beliefs messed with.

Exactly. You don't have to be married in a church so it's not violating any religion.

precisely. it's just a matter of legalities. the way i see it, i don't have to like homosexuality. i just don't see it as my concern what others do with their lives. if a person is happier being gay, i'm the last one that wants to get in the way of it.
the only thing that annoys me is when anyone, gay or straight, shows too much affection in public. i can live with hand holding or a little bit of kissing. just don't go full fledge making out. not everyone wants to see it. now that's what i find disturbing, more then anything else.

I think gays deserve their right to marriage simply because it is their right to the Pursuit of Happiness, and denying them this right is unconstitutional. I don't necessarily have to "approve" of homosexuality, but yes, they do deserve their rights.

i never thought about the constitutional angle. i'm surprised nobodies tried that, yet. I think that's usually because most people focus on the religious aspect of the debate, but even so... while this country was founded on Christianity, not all citizens adhere to the Bible and whatever religious texts there are out there that oppose homosexuality.
